Kunafa with Fork & Spoon Ghee

The masterpiece of Middle Eastern desserts that only reaches perfection with Fork & Spoon vegetable ghee, giving it a golden crunch and a rich aroma that melts in the mouth.

  • Small pot for making syrup

  • Oven at 180°C

🥘 Ingredients

  • 500 g shredded kunafa dough
  • 1 cup Fork & Spoon vegetable ghee, melted
  • 1 cup Akawi cheese (soaked to reduce saltiness)
  • ½ cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup warm syrup
  • 2 tbsp ground pistachios for garnish

👩🏻‍🍳 Preparation Steps

  1. Break the kunafa dough into small pieces and place it in a large bowl.
  2. Add the melted Fork & Spoon vegetable ghee and mix until the kunafa absorbs all the ghee.
  3. Spread half of the kunafa mixture in the tray and press firmly to form an even layer.
  4. Add a layer of cheese, then cover with the remaining kunafa and press gently.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C until golden (20–25 minutes).
  6. Remove from the oven and pour the warm syrup immediately, then garnish with pistachios.
Tip: Brush the tray with Fork & Spoon ghee before baking to give the kunafa an evenly golden color.

  • The syrup should be warm when poured over the hot kunafa.
  • The kunafa becomes firmer and easier to slice once it cools slightly.
